On Easter Sunday, the places of worship of Christians were targeted in Sri Lanka in a dastardly attack by some fanatics professing their religion as Islam. Nothing can be farther from the truth. In solidarity with the Christian brethren and the entire humanity at large, the Muslim community of Lucknow gathered in large numbers at Cathedral in Hazratganj during the Mass Service on Sunday, 28th April.
The silent congregation of hundreds of Muslims, including children and women, was a message to the world at large that how a common Muslim feels about his/ her religion being used in the name of terror. The various placards signified their silent protest and strong disapproval of the appalling attack on the Churches and the innocent citizens of Sri Lanka. The protest witnessed the presence of prominent citizens of Lucknow.
This display of solidarity was not organised by any Organisation or NGO. It was a People’s Movement which gathered momentum through WhatsApp messages that some people initiated in their circles. It was a message to the world that humanity is still alive. A prominent message displayed in the protest said it all, “Agar insaniyat mitayi ja sakti, to hum yahan na hotey”.
